Bad Economy and abandoned pets
Everyday we hear something new about the deteriorating economy. How people are losing their homes due to foreclosures, how they have to move to smaller places where pets are not allowed. It is very sad and unfortunately those worse off are people that were struggling to begin with. Across the country, from New York to Detroit, here in Chicago and all the way to California people have had to take the tough decision of getting rid of their animals. It’s understandable, I mean, dog food is expensive and vet care is really costly. However, it is being reported that more and more people are abandoning their pets on the street. Shelters are at full capacity and people keep bringing their pets in because they can no longer afford them. It is very sad because a pet is a friend, almost part of your family. In times of crisis you don’t abandon your kids so it doesn’t make sense to abandon an animal that has been with you for years. Be it a bird, a rabbit, a cat or a dog, these animals care for you because you’re the only people they consider family.
If you know someone that is struggling let them know that their animals are better at a shelter than on the street. These are house animals, spoiled creatures that don’t know how to take care of themselves. They get run over by cars, they get picked up by bad people that torture them, they can even get sent to experiment facilities to die a miserable death. Don’t leave them on the street and do what you can to keep your animals. There is also the possibility of waiting it out. Your dog can even survive eating table scraps! Dogs have been doing that for hundreds of years. Might get diarrhea at first but dogs in poor countries live like this everyday.
Well, I just felt I had to bring attention to this because many people out there can use some information and encouragement. Have some heart, help others and help animals.
