We just got 2 robos today. I am curious about your opinions…how do you like them as pets?
2.
kecute | July 9, 2007 at 2:04 pm
Hi
So far my hammy has been very nice. About four years ago we had a Siberian hamster but he used to bite a lot and we never got to enjoy him because of it. The robos on the other hand seem to be different. They don’t tend to bite like Siberians and they’re very social with people and other robos. The bad thing about robos is that they’re very fast so they’re a bit hard to handle cuz they can get away. Other than that, they’re the cutest! hope you’re enjoying your hammies and be careful not to mix sexes.

thanks so much for your thoughts. We have had up to 11 dwarfs at a time over the past 3 years. They have been dying off and we wanted new hamsters. I did not even know what these were until we went to the pet store today. Oh my gosh they are SO cute. Really the cutest little pet I have ever had. Oh, what did you mean about not mixing the sexes? We got a male and a female with the intention of breeding. Is that okay to do?
4.
kecute | July 9, 2007 at 2:31 pm
Mixing sexes is only for breeding since there’s no way (that I know) to fix hamsters. The problem with breeding them is having to place them in safe loving homes. If you’re going to keep them all, you could separate them and keep different cages or tanks to keep them under control.

hi I realy want a hamster but the only reason my mom would not let me is because they smell. I told her that I am going to clean them everyday and take care of it too.I think that roborovski hamsters are so cute and to come and think of it I wrote a report on them and now I realy do want some. What do you think I should tell my mom?
7.
Daniel | June 9, 2009 at 6:52 am
i got a roborovski. If you want a hamster you can hold dont get roborovskis. Roborovskis are too fast and timid to hold. They are pets for watching

kecute | April 16, 2008 at 7:45 am
Hi Lizzy, thanks for visiting. Having a pet means you are willing to care of it for years…robo hamsters for instance, are the longest living hamster at 3 1/2 years. So before making any promises to your mom you should keep that in mind. Your mom’s right that hamsters can smell. The bigger the hamster, the bigger the smell, but robos are smaller than even dwarf hamsters so they are a lot cleaner.
I have a husband with allergies and I’m also a bit of a tidy freak so I tried many different products and routines to keep my hamsters from smelling.
This is what I do:
I use sanitized corn cob bedding. (It’s expensive but everything else makes them smell)
I change the bedding every two weeks. (More often in the Summer)
I wash their accessories everyday with soap and water.
I spot clean their tank everyday.
When I change the bedding, I disinfect the tank with Lysol wipes and then rinse with water (or wet paper towels).
I found this routine to work the best. Also, place a container with bath sand for your hamster and he will keep himself clean everyday.

hey i have a hamster tooo my site is all about hamsters
11.
kecute | May 12, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Hi eileen. I hope your hamster isn’t sick. Depending on what kind of hamster you have, they eat about 2 tablespoons of food a day. They eat throughout the day snacking between their naps. They should always have food available that way you know if they’re eating or not. If you give them too much they’ll hide it in their sleeping area.

Hi, i bought 2 robos 2 weeks ago they are damn cute … one day it runns into my cloth.. wad if the boy and the girl haf a baby wad should i do plz tell me .
13.
kecute | May 15, 2008 at 10:01 am
Hi Bryan, have them checked by a vet (or someone who knows about hamsters) to determine their gender and if they are boy and girl then you need to separate them because they’ll breed. They don’t just have one baby, they usually have more than 4 at a time.

three robos in a box | June 3, 2008 at 12:30 pm
To hamster lover with the “twin” robos: Usually they are not exactly alike, so look for things like how far the white goes up their bellies, the darkness of their underfur, or even their size. If that doesn’t work for you, sometimes you can tell robos apart by their personalities and preferences. I have two that are very similarly colored, so I usually can’t tell them apart by a quick glance. If I want to tell them apart quickly, I look at their personalities: Where they are in the cage, how they react to certain treats, how they react to a noise… One of them doesn’t like a particular fruit treat, while the other does; one is skittish with loud noises, while the other is skittish around people; one prefers the top box, while the other prefers the bottom under the slide.

kecute | July 26, 2008 at 8:17 pm
Hi Jazmin, sorry to take so long to answer your question ;o)
If your hamsters are eating ok and they’re going about their normal business then you can be sure that they’re drinking enough water. You may not notice it but they’re drinking for sure. They wouldn’t last long without water. Always keep their water botte full and test the bottle tip (the little metal ball) because it can get stuck at times and the hamster’s tongue is not strong enough to fix it. One time, my Manolo was a little sad looking and sitting right under his bottle the whole time…the bottle was full so I didn’t make anything of it until the next day that I picked up the bottle and noticed that the ball was stuck! I don’t know how long it was but Manolo spent one day without water
33.
kecute | July 26, 2008 at 8:25 pm
Hi AnthonyLvr, well it’s not bad to touch your hamster but it is a little odd that he’s biting you since robos are usually very nice. Are you being gentle with him? Not squeezing him or anything? Also, make sure you have clean hands because if you’re hands smell like food or you have sugar on your hands the hamster is more likely to bite thinking you hand has food. Another thing, if you’re picking him up when he’s busy doing something, like eating, drinking, or sleeping then he will bite because you’re bothering him too much ;o) Just be nice and respect the little furball! see you around.
34.
Jazmin | July 27, 2008 at 3:37 am
HI kecute thanx 4 the advise but my water bottle doesn’t have a metal ball they just like from it and it comes out but i know they’re definetly drinking because whenever i now go into my room they are either sleeping or eating or drinking or exercising in their wheel!!

Cute hamster. I’ve had a female robo for almost a year now, and I just bought a male at the end of july. My female has become somewhat nippy with the male, so I seperated them. The female can get grumpy when she is prego. I feed my prego girl a pelleted diet for rodents made by LM animal farms mixed with Zupreem Rodent wafers (another pelleted diet). This is supplemented by Calf Manna (a pelleted food for baby cows that is high in vitamins and minerals) and the occasional vitakraft rondi. My Girl, Ichabod, never touched the Ice cream cones or nibbled on hay until I brought Issue, the boy, home. Now she does, and Issue, who is fat as all heck, learned to run on the wheel. It is really remarkable the personality differences between the little fluffballs.
Jazmin, Robos only drink around a teaspoon of water per day, they are desert animals. =)

Hi
My sister got a Robo hamster today
It is our first hamster
But our concerning is
How do we tell if it a female or male?
RE:
If your Robo is young it can be hard to tell since they’re so tiny but if they’re a little older there are many web sites with illustrations to show you the difference. If they’re mixed, be sure to separate them or they’ll breed.
Hi

I have seen those ice creams gnawing toys in a shop once. i thought they were really cool! But i already have a friut shaped one.
How do u know when to replace the gnawing toy with a new one ??
RE:
You should replace a toy if it looks like it’s breaking apart. Hamsters can eat the plastic and it’s dangerous.

Rachel | August 26, 2008 at 4:58 pm
hi i was just wondering where u got the ice creams from. i also hava a few questions.
my dad ihas allergies but robos have short hair so idk if thts a problem or not. im planning on gettin 1 so if i dop ill keep it in my room which my dad rarely comes into. r there hypoallergenic hamsters?
also, i heard robos r hard 2 train. if u get them when they r young, r they really tht hard 2 train? and does their speed get annoying if u let them loose in your room? if they get used 2 u, will they sit still in ure palm? can u train them 2 sit in ure or ure friends palm?
Sry i have so many questions. the only way i can get a robo is if i prove 2 my parents i actually researched and am serious.
Plz answer whenever u can
Well, I wouldn’t recommend a Robo as a first hamster. They are the cutest and very tame. They don’t bite compared to other dwarf hamsters. The problem is that they’re too fast and too hard to handle for first-time owners and for children. You can say you’ll be careful and you’ll train them but if they get away and get lost or get injured it’s really sad. The best hamster for newbies is a Syrian*. They’re also cute and tame and you can enjoy them more. A robo is for watching and a Syrian* for playing. ;o) good luck!
Thx

Hi Kecute
I really want a hamster. My parents agree tht i am responsible, except when i mention a pet. then they say ‘ no u wont take care of it’ i decided to really prove 2 my parents tht i deserve a hammie by really doing research. im preety sure i can concivnce them, but now im thinking bout what type oh hammie id like. i like anything tiny(idk y its weird im OBSESSED) so i want a robo. but im worried abput the speed, and how they are hard to train. im not a breeder so im thinking of maybe getting a mixed, so maybe half robo. i want 2 know if they would still be relatively small, but a little slower and more tame. i also would like 2 know if dwarf hamsters shed alot bcuz my dad has allergies. i would keep the hammie in my room which my dad rarely enters, but still, i was wondering if there are hypoallergenic hammies and if they r expensive. i also wanted 2 know if normal hamsters r expensive. i wanted 2 get 1 from a shelter, if u can. do u think thts ok? sry 4 all the questions, but i want 2 b fully informed 4 my mom.
Reply whenever u can, thx!!! =]
~Rachel~
RE:
All furry animals pose a problem for people with allergies. You can make things easier by keeping your hamster in a tank, that way the hair doesn’t fly all over. Use corncob bedding because it makes little to no dust and it doesn’t have a strong smell, like chips do. Corncob also absorbs urine better than anything and it keeps the poo at the bottom of the tank. It’s around $6 compared to $3 for regular bedding but it’s also better for the hamster’s air and breathing.

Andrea | September 4, 2008 at 7:04 pm
I’m scared. Cuz I see my hamster eat alot. Is that normal? I don’t see her run on her wheel as much as she used to. She drinks more and more water. Is she ok? I want to anything and everything in my power for my little Billy-Baby. Which could be hard considering I’m under 16.
RE:
There’s probably nothing wrong with your hamster just make sure her wheel is working property and it’s not blocked with bedding or anything.

Does roborovski hamstrer bites???
50.
kecute | September 24, 2008 at 9:03 am
Hi darico, robo hamsters are probably the nicest hamsters because they don’t bite. Most other dwarf hamsters bite all the time. The problem with robos is that they’re really fast and difficult to handle.
See you around! ;o)

lilman | September 26, 2008 at 2:28 pm
sometimes roborovski hammys do bite, but very rarely. mine are very quick. when i got them about 2 days ago they wouldnt come near me. how do i get them not to be scared of me???
wb
thnx
RE: Hi lilman. Try playing with your hamsters everyday. Put your hand inside their cage or tank and let them come near you on their own so they know you don’t harm them. After a while they’ll know that you may “bother” with your hand in there but nothing bad happens so they won’t bite you.

Jazmin | September 27, 2008 at 2:05 am
I think I’m allergic to my robos so i might have to get rid of them, what shall i do?
RE: Hi Jazmin. Sorry to hear that but there’s still a chance you might not be allergic to the hamster but to the bedding, food, or something else in the hamster’s cage. It happens often. Try using paper towels as bedding for a while and changing the hamster’s food to see what happens. If indeed it is the hamster then you will have to find him another caring home or a shelter, most pet stores will accept the hamster back to try and resell it. Good luck!

HI I AM GETING A HAMSTER AND DONT NO WHERE TO GET MINE I REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE NICESET HAMSTER IS AND WHERE TO GET MINE I AM WORRYED THAT WHEN IT GETS SICK IT WILL DIE I WONDER IF I SHOULD GET ONE NOW I WAS ALL EXCITED BUT I MIGHT WANT TO WAIT A LITTLE LONGER I AM ONLY 8 YEARS OLD MY MOM SAYS THAT THEY STINK AND SHE WILL NEVER CLEAN IT FOR ME WE I AM WITH MY DAD PLEAS ANSER BYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
RE: Hamsters are very nice and very sweet but the easiest hamster to handle is the Syrian or Teddy. Even though hamsters are small they’re still a lot of work so it’s probably better to wait until you’re older to get one and that way you can take care of him all by yourself and the hammy will love you more.

Vera | November 17, 2008 at 3:57 pm
Hi! I love hamsters, I’ve had several dwarves over the time… only one robo though, as they are hard to find where I live and the one I bought died very soon – it wasn’t the best of pet shops, but it was the only one that had robos, so I gave it a try. (I have avoided that shop since). I had Campbells and they were fun – even had a litter of two babies once, they were very, very cute. However, I still feel like getting a robo or two one day.
Juline, it may be that your hamster will never get as tame as you’d like him to. He might have had some scary experiences before you got him, or it may simply be his nature. Not all hamsters are the same. Try to go by small steps, just put your hand in the cage with some tasty treats in it and let him discover the goodies. If it doesn’t work out immediately, try again the next day. Patience is key. Don’t force him, don’t pick him up if he doesn’t like it. And maybe introducing him to your friends would be too stressful for him. In the meanwhile, just enjoy watching his activity

Maddy | December 6, 2008 at 7:03 pm
That is a very cute hamster especially since it has those cute little ice cream cones. Do you think those might be available in Canada? I really want a robo hamster for Christmas and my parents are convinced i wont take good care of it because my room is messy. I have had one other hamster once before, it was a dwarf hamster but not a robo, and i was wondering if robo’s could be trained if i was very patient and cautious. I’m really mature for a thirteen year old and i think i could handle it- so if you have any pointers i could tell my parents about to convince them, please tell me!
RE: Hi Maddy, thanks for visiting my blog ;o)
Robos are very hard if not impossible to train. They don’t like to be grabbed or anything so the best you can get with them is to pet them and occasionally grab them without them biting you. That’s one good thing about robos, they don’t tend to bite. They’re very sweet. They don’t require much care since they’re tiny hamsters but you would have to keep them clean. Clean their tank at least once every 2 weeks and give them volcanic sand so they can wash. You can get most of their things at Petsmart. I don’t know if they have those stores in Canada. Robos are the longest living hamsters at 3 1/2 yrs. There are people who claim to have 4 and 4 1/2 yr. old robos, so keep that in mind that you would be responsible for their little lives until you’re 16-17. ;o) good luck!

wat happens when u put another roborovski hamster into a cage where there is already a roborovski hamster leaving in it for a few weeks/ one or two months?
RE: Hi, thanks for visiting. If the robo’s been in the care for more than a couple of weeks then it will most likely be territorial especially if it’s male. Females wouldn’t fight as much. What you could do if the hamster’s been alone for a month is to completely disinfect the cage and toys and change the litter, maybe put in new toys and rearrange everything differently. Then put the hamsters in and hopefully the home will be a neutral place for them.

hi, i wonder if you can help me, in the past week my little robo has started making this repeated twittering noise, she sounds like a bird. she isn’t off her food and is still running around and behaving as normal. she is just making this noise constantly. from what i’ve read on the net, it suggests hamster are scared and aggitated, but i’ve no idea why she would be. as she is in a quiet place, has a large home. Would it be possible that she has an impacted cheek from where she tries to horde her food. Any advice would be appreciated. i’ve got an appointment at the vets, but that isn’t until wednesday.

Katherine&Hellip, i had the same problem, i got a couple of roborovskis about a month ago now and thought i could play with them all the time but theyre so fast i couldn’t stand a chance of catching them, but once they’ve settled into their cage, i’d give them about three or four days and they’ll get a little more used to hearing your voice and theyre surroundings they’ll calm down, they communicate etc through smell so they need to get used to the smell of your hands, i thought i was never gonna be able to handle them but i followed these instructions from another forum:
————————————————————————–
Roborovski hamsters make great pets once tame, but there are special taming methods for them.
Here’s my hamster taming guide:
Step 1. Lower your hand into the cage. The hamster my run away at first, but eventually it will be curious enough to come and sniff it if you don’t move.
Step 2. About half an hour later, hand-feed the hamster, offer it a treat such as a dog biscuit, apple, or piece of cheese.
Step 3. Gently stroke the hamster. Don’t stop, even if it runs away. Scoop it up in one hand and if it tries to get away, put it back in the cage.
Step 4. The next day, repeat the first three steps and then cup the hamster in your two hands. Don’t put it back, even if it struggles. Do this every day for about a week and the hamster will eventually be fully tame.
Step 5. Handle the hamster every day to keep it tame. If you don’t, it will go back to being untame.
———————————————————
I used this and it worked a treat, the other day i put my hand into the cage and one of my lil buddies just walked right onto my hand, what a cutie! hope i helped.

Hiya, i have just got two robo hamsters about 2 days ago. I’ve set up their water thing but it doesn’t seem to be going down. I saw this and gave them a small bowl with water in it and they still take no interest in it! i really don’t know what to do with them, they are so sweet and would hate for them to get ill. I’ve even tried putting their water drip up to their mouths and letting a bit of water come out of it, and they stil don’t realise.
Thanks!
Lara xx

help mine do stink a lot
and even the day after cleaning also i bought 2 males in same cage but one bit the other one badly so i then had to buy another cage i need some help on the smell its getting to the poing i cant go in 2 the room there in
RE: Hi, thanks for visiting. Are you sure you’re not sensitive to hamsters or the bedding you’re using? Try using sanitized corn cob and make sure you wash and disinfect all their toys and hiding houses each time you clean. I recommend every 2 weeks and washing dirty spots everyday. Robos shouldn’t smell that bad since they’re the cleanest hamsters. One thing to keep in mind is that males have a scent gland to mark their territory and since you have 2 they probably compete on marking their ground.

I want this breed so bad but I don’t even know if my parents are gonna let me get a hammy. Well see, but my question is is this breed good for 13 year olds? I know they are fast and hard to handle and catch but I want one so bad, they are the most appealing to my eye but I like to hold my animals alot. Should I get it anyways? I also only want one hamster, because it’s so hard to choose which one to hold, but is it bad for this breed to only have one because they may get lonely?
Thanks!

I love robo hamsters!! They are so adorable. I just got one about a month ago, and so far he’s been pretty acceptable. Not too rowdy, not too noisy. You know. My family are pet people. Along with my robo hamster (whose name is Benjamin *STRICKLY NOT BEN*) we have two cockatiels and a beta fish. We were expecting Benjamin to be noisy and abnoxious, but he is quite the opposite. I will try to post some pictures. He is sooo absolutly adorable!!!

I need an opinion: I bought a female robo about a week and a half ago (her name is Racie). She is very skittish and I think she would fare better if she had another little buddy. The PetCo I bought her at is an hour and a half away, but there is another that is closer to me. I’m just wondering if I get another Robo, would it better if I went back to see if they still had her same group of friends at the one store, or just go to the other and get a female there (I will be lugging her and her huge cage along with me, she is such a spoiled brat). I also can’t get her used to being around anyone, she shies away from treats and everything.
RE:
Hi Missy thanks for visiting. If your robo is a female you should get her another female. It doesn’t really matter if the other hamster is from the same litter as long as they’re both about the same age and same sex. 2 females would be very well together because they’re very social. Make sure they’re both female. ;o) good luck

My robo, Racie, is adorable. However, I think she needs a buddy. Is it wise to get another female, or should I try to get one of her friends at the original pet store I bought her at??? Poor thing is so skittish.

will robo hamsters get calmer to their owners once they get used to them? your hamster looks just like my little guy bug-a-boo i just got him today and he is vary timid if you put one finger by his cage he runs into his dome as fast as possible.

hey, that looks kinds like one of my dwarf hamsters, Puddles, but hes really fat, and today i have had him for 2 months. My hamsters had babies too. the mommy, daisy nurses the babies like at least 3 times a day. u give them the same food, but a lot because soon they will start eating on their own AND nurse. u MUST separate the male from the female because: 1.He might eat the babies
2. They can have babies again.
also u must not frighten the mother or touch her or her babies. try to keep them in a room where ppl dont go too much. you can not go in their cage except for food and water change everyday for 2- 4 weeks. you cant clean their cage or but them in their hamster balls. but u may do this with the male. if he also seems nervous, is normal. mysmale hamster is sleeping, exercising and eating a lot.
